CASTELMUZIO - PIENZA (SIENA)

HOLIDAY IN A VILLAGE HOUSE

If you are looking for a real tuscan experience and good value for money, this is the perfect place to spend your holiday.
We are particularly fond of this charming little house because it is located in one of the most beautiful and fascinating hill top villages through out Tuscany, overlooking that miracle of nature called "The Crete Senesi": a countryside characterized by undulating ploughed hills and densely forested areas.

THE VILLAGE AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Castelmuzio is a little medieval village dating from the 9th century and it is ideal for a relaxing holiday in direct contact with nature and Italian village life. In the evenings and afternoons the local clientel gather at the bar and in the Piazza outside after promenading along the main avenue of the village. With in the medevial center one finds a small store that sells nearly everything, a cheap and cheerful restaurant, a tobacconist and newspapers store and a bar with tables outside in the piazza. Walking away from the village one comes across the beautiful Romanesque church Pieve di S. Stefano a Cennano that also has a little museum of old farm tools. Petroio famous for its Terracotta is just 20 minutes walk away. Within in the immediate area are fabulous walks, horse back riding, tennis and the famous hot thermal springs of Bagno Vignoni. With in the surrounding area are Montepulciano, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia, Montalcino and Siena. Central Florence is one hour and 15 minutes door to door. Very little English is spoken in Castelmuzio, what you will find is enormous charme, little tourism, kindness and some gentle curiosity from the local people.

THE HOUSE

The house is subdivided into two comfortable independent apartments, “La Casina di Castello” (which sleeps four to six people) and “Il Nido di Castello” (which sleeps two people).
“Il Nido di Castello” is tucked underneath the “La Casina di Castello” and may be rented separatly or, via a communicating door, together to sleep another two people bringing the total to eight.

La Casina di Castello

Camera della Casina di Castello
“La Casina di Castello” is charming and neat and sleeps four to six people. The house (built in 1891) has been entirely restored maintaining its original features.
The house is located just out of the medieval walls of the village along a very quite avenue. This is very normal in Italian villages and as Castelmuzio is such a sleepy place, traffic noises should not be intrusive. The back part of the house looks out on to either charming vistas of the surrounding countryside or quaint views of the village.

ACCOMODATION
On the ground floor is a spacious entrance hall and staircase hung with restored farm implements and a collection of antique keys. Half way up the stairs is the second bathroom with toilet, basin and a small shower. On the first floor one finds a kitchenette off the dining room in an open plan arrangement with television and open fireplace, a sitting room with CD/radio/cassette player, two double bedrooms and a large, comfortable bathroom with shower. The ceiling of the house are all made of wood and hand made “cotto”, each room has been filed with antique furniture and every detail has been carefully considered to give atmosphere and comfort. When there are six people in the house the living room sofa unfolds to make a comfortable double bed and there is still the kitchenette/dining room with fireplace to use as a communal room. Half way to the second floor one finds a laundry room with ironing board, laundry sink and clothes drying rack. On the second floor is a terrace with table and chairs for dining al frescoe or BBQ with views of the bell tower and medieval center of the village. One can also see through two other buildings out to the Val d’Orcia.
